mobile ux: formatting buttons and smileys are smol

the formatting buttons and smileys shown above the compose box are too small to reliably poke on mobile.

rather than simply making the buttons bigger I wonder if it'd be tenable to have some kind of gesture-based XMB (ala PS3, PSP) web component to allow sifting through actions and maybe even optionally pinning them with a long press. I might poke at that idea at some point
